— baker, photographer, community-builder, and the human behind JBBakes.
Hi, I’m Julia!
about me!
JBBakes started as a college side project, a way to bake
for friends and family celebrating something sweet.
Since then, life has taken me through a whirlwind of odd jobs,
passion projects, and creative pivots that have shaped who I am and what I make.
JBBakes is more than a baking business—it's a home for everything that brings me joy:
cakes, community, photography, dinner parties, life updates,
and the occasional cameo from my girlfriend and our cats.
Food
With a B.S in Nutritional Food Sciences from Michigan State University, I’m constantly curious about the “why” and “how” behind food.
From working in professional kitchens (Levain Bakery), to running my own business out of my small NYC apartment, I’m obsessed with all things food.
Whether its cooking extravagant meals for dinner parties or reading a cookbook cover to cover, you’ll often find me in the kitchen.
Community
I co-founded Gay Shabbat,
a space for LGBTQIA+ Jewish New Yorkers to gather, break bread, and build something beautiful together.
I was in search of a place where one could be unapologetically Queer and Jewish, without having to compromise either identity, so I built it with my best friends.
Photography
I am never without my camera.
Whether I am shooting on a disposable, my Fuji x-t50 or just a phone, capturing a moment is my favorite way to share
the spaces and the treats
i’ve created.
